Charcoal Production Working Principle

 

Charcoal is a common carbon source. Wood is pyrolysed during the production process. In an oxygen-poor environment, the wood is heated to high temperatures to decompose, releasing water vapour and volatile organic gases. Charcoal is eventually made. Charcoal Production Process

 

  1. Raw material selection: Wood is the core of charcoal production. The quality of wood will directly affect the quality of the final charcoal. Raw material is the key to charcoal production; choose dry, unblemished hardwood. For example: oak, teak, walnut, date wood and so on. These woods are ideal for making high-quality charcoal. During the selection process, try to ensure that the wood is dry and free of blemishes to ensure the quality of the final product.
  2. Wood pre-treatment: The selected wood is crushed and processed into appropriate sizes. If there is a lot of moisture inside the wood, it is recommended that it be left to dry out in a ventilated area. This removes excess moisture from the wood and prepares it for subsequent carbonisation.
  3. Carbonisation: Carbonisation is the core of timber production. The wood is burned in a closed environment and gradually thermally decomposed to release moisture and volatile substances, eventually forming charcoal. It is important to note that depending on the raw material of the wood, the carbonisation time and temperature should be controlled to ensure the quality of the finished charcoal. Long carbonisation time and suitable carbonisation temperature can promote the full release of moisture and volatile substances. This results in high-quality charcoal.
  4. Cooling and storage: After carbonisation, the charcoal needs to be cooled and stored. The charcoal needs to be cooled to prevent further burning. The storage should be placed in a dry and ventilated place to avoid the charcoal being damp or mouldy.
